The 2011 Summer Institute Teaching Team:

 

Claudie Clark holds nursery (Birth-6) and elementary (6-9) training and is a certified adult educator with over 15 years of experience in the Montessori Method. Claudie is currently Managing Director of Western Montessori Teachers’ College Society in BC, and founding Chair of Western Montessori Alumni Association. Her work frequently includes parent education, professional development workshops and community outreach projects in Western Canada.

Carol Scarratt is founder and now Professor Emeritus of Western Montessori Teachers’ College Society, established in 1979. With over 30 years involvement in the Montessori Method, she holds a Master’s degree in Organizational Leadership and Training from Royal Roads University Victoria, and Montessori teaching diplomas for children birth – 12 years (St Nicholas Montessori, UK). Carol is presently principal consultant of ©Renaissance Services, her private practice offering Change Management, Appreciative Inquiry and Professional Development to learning organizations. Montessori’s Theory of Cosmic Education. The Great Lessons

The Planes of Development. The Elementary Prepared Environment.                                              

Teacher Preparation.  Instructional Strategies.  Key Lessons in the Elementary Curriculum:

History, Geography, Ecology, Biology, Paleoanthropology. Reading & Grammar,

Arithmetic, Geometry & Algebra. Education for Peace.  Leadership Development. Montessori and Contemporary Theory.

 

Seminar presentations will be followed by hands-on supervised lab with Key lessons and the opportunity to assemble sample materials for your own classroom!

 

This series of seminars is intended for those already teaching in a Montessori lower elementary class or who plan a career in Montessori elementary. For those with no prior experience, WMTC’s Foundations in Montessori (Level I) is strongly recommended. Please request information on this year’s offering. This course stands alone as an invaluable overview for the new teacher in a lower-elementary class.

 

All registrants are required to provide a current resume and a letter of support from their school.

A BEd or evidence of current enrolment in a BEd program of study is a required prerequisite for enrolment.

A Professional Development certificate - Foundations in Montessori Elementary (6-9) and a formal transcript will be issued to learners completing all course requirements in a timely manner.  100% attendance is a requirement.

 

Registration is strictly limited to 10 participants for this life-changing learning experience. Please register early to avoid disappointment. This includes two texts and a course manual (2 volumes) and materials kits in 4 key areas.  A nutritious breakfast snack bar will be provided upon arrival each day. We request that learners arrive 30 minutes prior to class start. Please inform us upon registration of vegetarian preferences or any specific food allergies. The final date for registration is June 15, 2011 after which texts will be mailed for pre-reading assignment due on July 18, 2011.
